Joseph Heller is a horticulturalist, outdoorsman and hunter who has been working with native plants for more than 15 years. Originally the owner of a full service landscaping business that focused on native, low maintenance plantings, he has traded in his shovel for a drip torch and chainsaw. After spending several years restoring various habitat types on his families’ Crawford County, MO farm and implementing a plethora of management techniques, he started Birdsong Ecological in order to follow his passion and help guide landowners on their native habitat management journey. Joseph is also very active in the Upper Meramec Prescribed Burn Association, helping to teach others about the safe use of prescribed fire and connecting likeminded landowners.

Birdsong Ecological will design a habitat management plan for your land to foster diverse native ecosystems.
The first step in our process is to set up a consultation where Joseph will meet you at the property for a tour to assess the existing habitat, identify what the land owners’ specific goals are and make recommendations based on that information.
At this point, goals have been clearly identified and a detailed plan can be written. Our plans can be thought of as a recipe that can be clearly followed, taking guesswork out of the equation. We deliver a 5 year plan and map that, in addition to setting up a proper rotation of practices to benefit the ecosystem, takes into consideration the landowners’ preferred pace, the best way to leverage state and federal grants, and what will garner the most benefit for the least effort.
At this stage it’s time to take action! Get out your drip torch and sharpen your chainsaw, great changes are coming and Birdsong Ecological will be available to answer your questions along the way, making for a smooth and enjoyable process. If you prefer to contract out the implementation of the plan, Birdsong Ecological can locate, schedule and oversee contract work for you to ensure the job is completed to specs.
Enjoy your one of a kind property and the abundance of diversity that nature has to offer! Give us a call today to schedule your consultation!
